We’re thrilled to share that baby Maria Silva took her first steps this week at Mamahood Meetup! Mamahood Meetup is a group at the Center for Wellbeing & Happiness that provides a nurturing environment for moms to explore the newfound joys and challenges in this transitional chapter of parenthood together through shared conversation, resources, and support for each other and for their children.
The group was inspired by Joalis Silva, Maria’s mother and a CWBH instructor, after her Women, Infants, Children (WIC) group for new moms lost funding.
“[Kiera, the CWBH Program Manager] said they’ve been looking to facilitate something like this for a long time and to get all the moms to sign up,” said Joalis. “We had our first meeting last week. It was so incredible. My daughter took her first steps. Another one of our moms, Violeta—her daughter took her first steps. Now we’re here, and it’s amazing.”
In Mamahood Meetup, moms will have the opportunity to learn from one another, engage in fun sensory-based activities, and play with their babies to promote early childhood motor, cognitive, and social/emotional development.
“When you’re a mom, especially a first-time mom. you feel like you’re alone…like nobody else is going through this [and] nobody else understands,” says Joalis. “So to be in this group, it felt like somebody gets it. Somebody’s also there with me in the trenches.”
Whether you are a new mom for the first, or even second, third, or fourth, Mamahood Meetup aims to provide a safe, judgment-free space. If you would like to sign up for Mamahood Meetup, visit the Classes page on our website.
